An Old Friend

When we first came to Mexico, we worked very closely with a pastor who soon became a good friend. His name was Josue Santos. He was one of the people who were inviting us to do youth ministry training in this country. About 6 years ago, he moved to Houston.

Today, we had the great opportunity to see him again and eat breakfast with him. It was great to catch up with the present, remember old times, and let him meet our kids. I’m glad he took the time to come see us today.

I wonder if there’s someone from your past you could get back in touch with this weekend. Wouldn’t that be pretty cool?

Kind Words

I skyped into the board meeting of Youth Ministry International in order to give a little report on what is happening in Latin America, and I received such an encouragement from David Adams, the director of the Center for Youth Ministry at Southern Seminary in Kentucky. Check the video to hear what he said.

His words were just what I needed to hear, and they reminded me of Proverbs 25:11 – “A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting of silver.”

Training Trainers

Randy Smith from Youth Ministry International came to Mexico last weekend to meet with various Seminaries to talk about a new Master’s program we are starting to train youth ministry professors. These professors will then start youth ministry programs at their Seminaries.

Despite horrible traffic, the meetings went well. If all goes well we will begin the program sometime next year, and at the end of the program there will be at least 4 youth ministry programs at Seminaries throughout Mexico.

Here are some pictures we took of the meetings.

Camps and Retreats Video

Like I mentioned in the previous post, I taught a Camps and Retreats class in October. This video is a little about what we did during the event.

Camps and Retreats October 2011

In October I had the chance to teach the Camps and Retreats class for our Certificate program at the Seminary. It’s a less formal level youth ministry training program that we have on Saturday mornings.

For the last week of class, I had the students organize a retreat. They did all the planning, and it turned out pretty well. The speakers were Randy Smith and Maykel Valdez, who were already coming in for some meetings that we were having to expand youth ministry training in Latin America. Their topics were general leadership and also how to connect what happens at camps and retreats to what happens in everyday ministry.

We had a great time. You can see the pictures on Flickr by clicking here.

Youth Ministry Grads in Mexico

Here’s a quick map of where our youth ministry graduates are serving around Mexico. I’m going to update it, hopefully, with another layer of where our current Seminary students are from.

Youth Ministry training in Cuba

We got an email from one of the graduates in Cuba who is now directing a Center for Youth Ministry in the central region of the country.
