This Blog Will Never Make Money

I will never make money blogging. Although making money would be great, it’s a good thing it’s not the purpose of this blog.

Besides, I just don’t have it in me. Suzie over at abundance highway asks a great question about how many topics should be covered in a blog. It seems that many people who have made lots of money on their blogs say to stick to one topic and write about it constantly.

Those of you who read this know that I deviate often from one consistent topic. I could talk about youth ministry one day. I could talk about missions the next day, and you know I’ll throw something about Mexican culture or global youth ministry into the mix.

These things interest me. They are my life. They are my passion. They are what I feel God has called me to do with my life. It is this mix that makes what we do unique.

So, while thinking about how many topics a blog should cover is something to think about, this blog will probably never only cover one topic, and I’ll probably never make money writing it.

Weather in Mexico City

Lately, it’s been pretty hot in Mexico City. The weather has reached over 30 degrees Centigrade (86 F) a lot lately. March is the hottest month, and it’s been hotter than usual this year. The federal government has issued warnings, reminding people to take precaution when going out for long periods of time.

We have a great way to beat the heat. We play in the sprinkler.

A Little Mexican Snack

My students came to class today with a snack. They are chapulines tostados, known in English as toasted grasshoppers.

I didn’t have it in me to try them yet, but if I ever do, you know I’ll video it because it’s more than likely that I won’t eat them more than once (even though my students suggest I’ll like them).

They come toasted, with salt, lime, and garlic on them. They can also be eaten with salsa on them (like on popcorn). I’m seeing the beginnings of a cool youth group game…maybe “Chubby Chapuline” or “Fear Factor.”

A Quick Question

I think most of the people who read this through a feed reader or online should be able to respond to this, but I’m looking for suggestions for good commentaries on the gospel of John. Got any suggestions? Leave a comment. Thanks.

I wonder if anyone will leave a comment. Please leave your favorite commentary series or your favorite commentary on John.

April Fools Day in Mexico

I was explaining the idea of April fool’s day to my students in class today, and they told me about Mexican April Fool’s Day, which falls on December 28, and is called “Día de los Inocentes” or “Día de los Santos Inocentes.” The name means Day of the Innocent Ones or Day of the Innocent Saints.

On this day in Mexico (December 28), you are not to lend anyone money because they will just take it, and you are considered the fool. They also play pranks on each other like Americans do on April 1. Also, the newspapers and media outlets publish stories that are not true, just like the do in the United States.

If someone falls for your prank on The Day of Innocent Ones, you sing the following song, “Inocente palomita que te dejaste engañar, porque sabes que en este día, a nadie debes confiar.

The translation is, “You let them fool you, you innocent dove. You know that today you shouldn’t trust anyone.”
